Much has already been written and spoken about the late Hugh Ashton and the turnout at the Thanksgiving Service was testament to the high esteem in which he was held in Claygate, Esher & Walton, Elmbridge and beyond.
Hugh worked tirelessly for the cause and seldom if ever gave up on campaigns and projects even if it took years to win people over. I am pleased that following pressure from Hugh over a number of years Elmbridge has allocated cash to upgrade the Claygate Recreation Ground Pavilion to provide disabled access and at to update the facilities. Running of the local recreation ground and supporting and promoting the interests of the disabled through the ACCESS Group were two of Hugh's many passions.
He will be sorely missed.
