On Saturday 5 April Parliamentary Spokesman Sereena Davey and South-East MEP Sharon Bowles supported the Friends of the Earth campaign for a stronger Climate Change Bill in Cobham.
Parliamentary Spokesman Sereena Davey said: "The Government had a chance to establish tough targets to address the tough challenge we face. They failed. The Liberal Democrats and Friends of the Earth are united in calling for the real change we need to ensure we cut our emissions further and faster."
South-East MEP Sharon Bowles said: "Liberal Democrats MEPs have campaigned hard for a pan-European approach to address climate change. We must safeguard our environment by taking tough measures and I am pleased to support this campaign."
Liberal Democrat MPs and Peers have called for the Bill to set a binding target of an 80% cut in Britain's CO2 emissions by 2050, rather than the 60% currently set by the Government. Like Friends of the Earth Liberal Democrats have also called for aviation and shipping to be included in the scope of the Bill. The party has a dedicated Facebook campaign on the issue of Climate Change. Details at www.facebook.com/pages/Climate-Change-60-cut-is-not-enough/11917166969
