Lib Dem Cllrs fight to protect Thames Ditton Ember Centre from closure

Lib Dem Councillors in Long Ditton are fighting plans to close the Ember Centre at the Vera Fletcher Hall in Thames Ditton.

Group leader and Long Ditton Councillor Barry Fairbank says: "We have argued tirelessly in council debates that budget setting must not be funded by cuts to front line services. This is an essential service for retired people living across the Dittons."

Fellow Long Ditton Councillor Shweta Kapadia adds "a petition against this closure amassed over 2,100 signatures showing just how out of touch the Conservative administration is with local sentiment."

The Conservative administration have said they may now reconsider the proposals to close the centre. A U-turn welcomed by Cllrs Fairbank and Kapadia.
