Cllrs with Claygate shopping bag
Liberal Democrat Councillors in Claygate have been working with traders who to identify how best to survive, and thrive, in these difficult times. The 'Claygate Shopping Experience' was launched in April 2009, with a loyalty card scheme as its focus. Since then nine local residents have won prizes of £100 each in vouchers, which have then been spent in local shops.
This scheme will be re-launched in the Spring 2010, at the same time as some beautiful new hanging signs are unveiled, all bearing the 'Claygate Shopping Experience' logo and identifying the 'butchers', the 'bakers', the 'fishmongers', etc, in The Parade and on Hare Lane slip road.
Cllr Michael Courtney said, "funding for this initiative, which will imbue our shopping parade with great character, has come from a successful bid to Elmbridge Borough Council's Civic Improvement Fund, and from Claygate Parish Council, which has also generously supported the loyalty scheme."
Cllr Jimmy Cartwright added "We want to thank all residents for supporting our shops in these difficult times, and we hope that in the future shopping here will be an even more pleasurable experience."
